This guy is a joke. He is an embarrassment to the human race. I'd love to see him be forced to be in a "You Can Play" commercial.

Janssen shows his true colors

Edit: Generally I like when players speak their minds/stories as it brings you closer to the game but this is tactless and unacceptable.

Aside from the homophobic comment, I liked the interview. Showed a REAL hockey player not having to sugar coat his interview. You can see he has a lot of respect for the Kings.

Aside from the homophobic comment I liked it too. Better than the racist email that was forwarded to me by another collector from a Forum member that pretends to have turned over a new leaf on this board.

"So yes, Cam Janssen, you can speak your mind and I hope that you, and all other players, continue to do so in the future. But you can't be surprised when everyone thinks you're a dumbass bigot who doesn't belong in the league."

Welcome to what is discussed and said in every locker room in every sport, pro or beer league.

Cam had to know in this overly sensitive PC country we live in combined with the power of social media and "pro-" organizations it was just foolish to think this would fly under the scope.

In terms of locker room banter, what Cam said is tame at best. Par for the course.

Ken, I agree pretty tame compared to what is probably said. Dumb comment that was brought out by the interview style. He should know better. Good fighter, way below average player. He may not even be with the team next year as he is on a 2-way contract I believe.

Just watched part of the "interview" (more like a Howard Stern-type lowlife fest) and stopped at the brainless shock fat chick blather. The host totally took him down "buddy-buddy" lane to hopefully get some controversial baited responses and he got his wish. This kind of absolute crap is why I never listen to sports talk radio - it's a pure utter waste of valuable time, just like the minutes I just wasted learning about another idiot sub-culture talk host in the world.

I didn't even make it that far. It's not about being offended at all, I could just care less about him or any other player's feelings and thoughts.

As far as the topic, I don't feel that people should be forced into any one way of thinking. If some people CHOOSE to be PC warm and fuzzy, let them. If other people want to see things differently, why not allow them to do so. In the end, either you agree or disagree and just move on.

The media made it out that Janssesn said these remarks when in reality after listening to the interview it was obvious that the host was the one that brought each controversial topic and word. I am sure Cam regrets not giving more thought to his answers being that as part of the job of being a professional athlete comes the part of being a role model and representing his team. Unfortunately this seems to go in line with how Avery was viewed before he was run out of the league. If Lou truly likes Can which I assume he does since he resigned him........I am sure that Cam will be a lot of charity work this season.
And as for the comment about him being on a commercial for You Can Play, as Patrick Burke [retty much said, and as others have pretty much said, this is part of the culture that You Can Play is trying to change. Cam Jannsen could actually become one fo the most visible people to help that cause. if a tough guy hockey player who wants to beat up gays can change then it's possible for anybody to change.

Good interview. He was upfront and honest. Since this was a podcast and not the radio, live, alot more can be said and gotten away with. I wouldn't necessarily starts calling out the gaurd for his comments. It was a passing comment and taken in jest of the moment. Let's all stop being so PC. How many times have a bunch of guys gotten together and stuff like that comes out?

eh, he shouldnt have said a couple of things, but i dont think it was that bad; certainly doesnt seal his fate as a bigot (at least, imo).

i mean, maybe he is, but it's also entirely possible that he just made a few dumb comments.

i think it's a slippery slope to call people bigots, racist, homophobic, etc strictly based on an interview like this or some dumb comments made on the ice or on a field. we're all human and sometimes we say dumb things the heat of the moment or after a few beers that we wish we could take back.

the sad truth is that it happens and that we all make mistakes. it all comes down to whether he makes a habit of it

Just an update. I heard Patrick Burke of "You Can Play" speaking the other day on this issue. He said Jannsens has apologized directly to him twice and had lengthy conversations with Patrick. He said Janssens admitted he was wrong and now understands why it was wrong and will likely become a voice that is part of the "You Can Play" initiative. For reference sake, I heard it on a podcast, and I believe it was the Hockey News podcast with Adam Proteau and some other guy.

Normally don't throw in my 2 cents, but I didn't hear the host ask Cam about sexual preference in hockey. Think someone said it earlier this was trash talk, that we all know happens, and that's light comared to the locker room.

The show is internet based, and they can use whatever language they want.

If Cam was asked about sexual preference in hockey, and he came up with that comment shame on him. But that wasn't the case.

I do agree there is no room for bigotts in today's society, everyone should be treated with fairness and dignity. But those who took offense to the comment took it way out of context.

Just my 2 cents, worth less than the paper (lol) I wrote it on!

Hope everyone is well!
Enjoy!
