So i'm looking for a OBX beach rental the last week of August or first week of September (must be ocean front:) and i thought, "man, too bad i can't just trade my Bobby Gould caps retro and Ken Klee JB patch jerseys for a week at the beach." and then i wondered....maybe i can??!!!!
I've now bought a car which included a couple game worn jerseys as part of the payment and since have sold a car which included game worn jerseys as part of the payment. Curious if anyone else has done some "outside the box" type trades where they were able to use their game worn jerseys as legal tender!
And i'm serious on the beach house, if you have a 3+ bedroom ocean front place available the end of august or beginning of september... i have a couple jerseys to trade!!!!!
be interesting to hear what crazy deals have gone on out there.

Alan,
Great post, but I don't think many people collect game-worns. I'm sure if the car salesman is a hockey fan that would work. Great idea and you've got me thinking outside the box.
Just came back from Nags Head oceanfront, pool,8 bedrooms, stacked 8K per week.

I don't know if i would cal it weird. I traded a Kentucky Throughblades warm up jersey to a hockey fan/ thoroughbred horseman for a walter 380 PPK. He thought he got a great deal. They guy wasn't a collector so he thought the shirt must be worth a few hundred. Heck he even threw in some ammo.
Nice little handgun too. I think i still have it in the collection.

In the 2002 Olympics, I was posted at the hockey practice venue and traded some law enforcement pins for a Team France practice jersey with the equipment guys. I got a couple of gloves and stick blades too. No beach house though.

Sean I remember that. I heard that Mario Lemieux once traded 3 or 4 of his shirts for a new plasma TV, don't know if it was true or just an "urban legend."

Well to this point I would not say that I have done any weird deals like that, however I'm willing to start...
I am willing to offer either permanent residency in my former house or a nice vintage Pearl drum set in trade for jerseys. (Note: You may have to gather a few collections together to trade for the house...)

After a Long Beach Ice dogs game, in the bar, I traded my brother's Ford pickup truck for a first year kings jersey, a Rendevoux Peter Stastny Nords and a Sutter Hawks on a napkin deal. John Van Boxmeer was in the bar laughing his head off. Needless to say the three way transaction went smoothly. I still have the King jersey!

A few years ago when I was house shopping in North Carolina I was touring this one house and when I went into the walk-in closet there were about 10 gamed used Pittsburg Steelers jerseys hanging there. It turns out the house was owned by Dwayne Washington who was a cornerback for the Steelers at that time. Being a huge Steelers fan I put an offer in on the house with the provision that a game used jersey be included in the sale. My real estate agent thought I was crazy. Unfortunately the sale never went through.

Not a jersey, but I once traded a Linksys laptop wireless card for a UNC-Charlotte Norm the Niner bobblehead, which I'd seen go for $75 on ebay.
But, if anyone wants a silver 2000 Xterra with 233,000+, a couple of dings, and a flawless record under the hood, shoot me an email. I'm sure we can swing something because at this point I don't think I'm getting much in the way of trade value later this month for a new Altima. Hell I'll even replace the fender that's dented for you.

I traded a Radiohead CD for a gameworn AHL Ducks Dwayne Zinger jersey plus 3 replica AHL/ECHL jerseys.
The CD was very limited and worth a bit of money.

Well, in the mother of all suprises to me, the house sold before the drums. Sadly (to me anyway, not to the wife) I didn't get a pile of jerseys for the house. We had to settle for cash...

Here's another ironic story which involves both homes and drums. When I first moved to Central WI in 1998, I lived in an apartment with a detached double garage. Well since playing in the apartment building wasn't realistic, I played them in the garage, but they could still be heard in the apartment building.
Fast forward three years - my wife and I buy our first house and of course I drum in the basement. One day as I'm out getting the mail, the neighbor from across the street comes out to grab his at the same time. So we strike up a conversation and he says "I hear you haven't given up drumming." I thought that was an odd comment for someone I was meeting for the first time. Well it turns out he and his wife lived in the same apartment building that I did and they had the apartment that faced the garages so of course they were always aware of when I was practicing. So out of 50,000 people in town, who do they get as a next door neighbor at their new dream house? Me.
They can run, but they can't hide! Seven years later we moved on to our new place and I'm sure not soon enough for the neighbors. Ryan J

Had I won the Crosby from the MGG grab bag, which I didnt because I couldnt get in on it, but when I measuring my options I contacted a local car dealership I know of that the GM collects gamers and made a deal that had I won I would have got brand new Chevy Colorado, well a 2008 model and pretty basic, but I would have been the first owner and need it badly so would have loved to do it.

I haven't had that happen yet, but I do have a 1998 Saab 900 convertible with a little rust sitting in my garage I'd swap for a few gamers.
Trouble is, I'm in Canada and it's registered in the US, and I'm not going to pay to have all the crap done to it. If someone can get it back across the border in Buffalo or nearby, it's a neat little car for a kid or as a summer runner.
Make me an offer and figure out how to get it back into the US!
