Milt, I have two Colorado Avalanche 1998-99 game issued jerseys. They are both Serge Aubin jerseys. One home, one road and have the 'CHS'(Columbine High School) patches. These patches were not available to anyone outside the Av's. Serge played one game during 1998-99 season, December 31, 1998. Months before the Columbine tragedy so they are obviously not game worn. I was curious how much they would sale for. I am looking to sale them and not sure what to charge.

Thanks,
Mike

Sorry, but I really do not follow what unused jerseys sell for for the most part. Maybe do some research on what the MapleLeafs sold there unused jerseys for and then add something to the value for the patch.

avs2001, it is still possible that it is a gamer. It was probably used in the preseason as well, and knowing the way Serge plays there probably won't be too much wear displayed. Some of the guys that went up and down didn't wear as many jerseys as the guys that played the whole season. So a Forsberg wore 3 sets and the 3rd was used in the playoffs and they had these patches sewn onto them. Guys that played a couple games may have only had 1 set but once the playoffs rolled around they may have taken his only jersey and put the CHS patch on it. I saw this with a different player and when I was offered to buy it I balked thinking that since he didn't wear the jersey with the patch that it may not be worth as much with the patch. I now regret it deeply that I didn't purchase it. As for the patches being made public, I have seen these patches made public in Denver. If you are interested in obtaining any other Aubin jerseys I know someone who has one of his Hershey Bears and it is very nice.

Good point Jgkamin, maybe some more research on the jersey is needed before you write it off as not being used.

Everybody,

thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I have searched for some answers the last few days and haven't come up with much. Here are the details:
- The Aubins I have, do not have the set # marked in the collar in marker like most Av's jersey have I beleive.
- Size tagging is 56R-8-21.
- The jerseys are #44.
- There are deposits in the fight straps. Not a ton, but there is some.
- The CHS patches are sewn on as if they are an actual part of the jersey. Not wide cross stitching along the edges, but lots of threading very closely stitched.
- I see no puck, stick, etc. marks on the jerseys.
- I am certain they have been washed. Crests, etc not stiff.
- I have looked around name plate and see no evidence of a plate change.
- Aubin played one game during 1998-99 season, December 31, 1998.

I have no idea if Aubin was called up for the playoffs and sat on the bench and did not play at all. I have tried to find out but could find nothing.
If anybody have any ideas I would be glad to hear them.

Thanks again,
Mike

avs2001,
You may want to go back and look at the AVS transactions for the last month prior to playoffs for 98-99. Teams will call-up several players as insurance in case of injuries. Most times these players never dress, only practice. If Aubin was a playoff call-up that could explain the CHS patch on the jersey.

I looked up the transactions around the ned of the season and playoffs. He was not called up. I talked to someone about the jersey and they feel they are probably preseason jerseys and that the Av's had the patches put on all the jerseys in case somebody was needed. But that is still not a 100% thing. ALso someone emailed me and thought maybe he wore them at the Av's burgundy/white scrimmage game. Really wish I knew. I have had several people interested in them but don't want to sale them as something they may not be. If anybody has any other thoughts please let me know. I would like to get $400.00 each, but not worth that if just team issued(unworn Milt).

Hi Mike,

You might want to try looking up a Denver
area newspaper online (maybe someone here
in the forum can help with the name or site
of a paper in that area) and see if they
have any archives going back to last season.
Maybe you can look at the old box scores
and see if his name appears at all. Good
luck!

Dave,

I looked. I live in Denver area. I've looked in the Av's media guide and it just has the one game also. Clouts39 sent me this link. Interesting. They probably made a mistake. http://espn.go.com/nhl/profiles/stats/splits/1998/1839.html

Only Serge knows for sure...

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

If the ESPN stats made a mistake, then USA Today made the same. Checked USA's transaction archives and they showed Serge Aubin being recalled from Hershey on March 6. They also listed him as playing Aril 5 vs LA Kings with 6 shots on goal. This matches the stats on the ESPN link. You may want to double check some other sources.

I know Serge played that one game for the Avs. That was Hartley's way of rewarding him for outstanding work. At that time Serge only had a contract with the AHLs Hershey Bears, so the AVs had to hurry up and sign him to an NHL contract then call him up. He was returned shortly afterward. I don't think he was recalled at the end of the season when they recalled players for the playoffs. I know Matte, Denis, Parker, Tanguay, Skoula and one or two others were recalled and used as practice players, but not Aubin. As for Serge, its great to see him come alive last season, he's had a tough road throught the pro ranks. He played with Christian Matte in Granby and when the Pens loaned him to Hershey 3 years ago they jelled again. He has taken off since then and now the Avs and Bears own him. I saw at the end of the last season that Hartley was again rewarding him with alot of playing time, and he responded by playing well. He did alot of stuff (hitting, plymaking etc.) that I haven't seen much of when he was in the AHL, so that is why he made the NHL and Christian Matte hasn't yet.

Kngzfan,

I looked up USATODAY's transactions. They did call him up March 6th, but it was this year. THis jersey was from the 1998-99 season. thanks though. Heres that link to the March 2000 transactions.

Mike,

I rechecked the box scores for 98/99 and Aubin is listed for the April 5, 1999 game vs Kings.... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/shn/shn819sc.htm

However, I did not find him being recalled when I rechecked the transactions for 99. I must have clicked on March 2000 instead of March 99 by mistake last time. So he is either listed in error for the April 99 game, or they missed reporting his recall in the transactions.

Kngzfan, and everybody else,

Thank you so much for all of your input on these jerseys. I greatly appreciate it and it is great to see people work togethor!

Kngzfan, I looked up that box score and he is listed there for the April 5th game. This is incredible! I have no idea. I will have to see if I can talk to Aubin when training camp begins and see if he remembers. If I do I will post what he tells me.

I have sold the jerseys to someone. This person made me a very good offer fro both so I took it. Thanks to everyone that was interested. If I get anything else, I will let the forum memebrs know first.

Again, thanks to everyone for their help.

Mike
